Premium Cacao Husk Teas

The Husk Mill’s teas are blended locally in Stanmore, Sydney. We only use the highest quality ingredients, and all our blends are plant based, sugar and 99.5 % caffeine free.

During travels in Peru, the founder of The Husk Mill Elaina Downey discovered cups of warming and seemingly indulgent cacao husk tea - and, after a little research, was amazed to find that cacao husks carry an array of health benefits. Cacao husks are extremely high in antioxidants, along with other minerals and vitamins and are nearly completely free from caffeine. Elaina had been searching for a drink that would fit into her health-focused but busy life that also tasted great, and it was out of these discoveries that The Husk Mill was born.

The benefits of drinking The Husk Mill teas

Our cacao teas are 99.5% caffeine-free.
Cacao and its husk contain theobromine, a stimulant which differs from its cousin caffeine. Theobromine has a slow release effect and helps release your body’s natural endorphins to give you that much needed pick-me-up whether you drink it morning, noon or night.

Our teas are high in antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. The cacao husks we use in our blends carry many of the same antioxidant agents as the cacao bean, as well as being high in magnesium, potassium and fibre. Additionally, there is a lower fat content in the husks than the bean itself.

Our teas are 100% plant based and are sugar and additive free.
Our teas are completely natural and preservative-free – there are no added flavours or starches. They are vegan and contain no gluten so you can enjoy our blends knowing you are doing your body a world of good. No sugar is used in any of our products, even if they taste slightly sweet.

All of our products are sustainably sourced, produced and delivered.

We choose to work with likeminded farmers, suppliers and contractors in order to minimize our carbon footprint. Our husks are sourced from the Western slopes of the Andes in Peru. We work with a farm that has an ongoing commitment to helping to increase the life quality of all individuals in their supply chain. They are engaged in practises that aim to improve the health and welfare of the native Andean communities they work with.

We are particularly conscious of packaging waste, and have chosen recyclable packaging for our range, including biodegradable cellulose inner bags.  The Husk Mill has also partnered with Australia’s first carbon neutral postal service, Sendle. Sendle works with South Pole Group to offset the emissions of every parcel that they deliver. Find out more.

Are there any health precautions I should be aware of when drinking cacao tea?
Our blends are a wonderfully healthy alternative to other beverages that often contain a multitude of additives. With this said, our teas are not recommended as a replacement for medically prescribed treatments or medications. Always consult a medical professional for any health conditions and questions that relate to pregnancy or any pre-existing conditions.
